Summary

This study is aimed at establishing tolerable and potentially effective doses of two medicinal cannabis products in paediatric palliative care.
 
Who is it for?
Participants may be eligible for this study if they are aged 6 months to 21 years, have advanced cancer (metastatic or locally advanced solid tumours, brain tumours or advanced hematological malignancies) and have been referred to or are known by the paediatric palliative service.
 
Study details
Participants will undergo baseline measurements, before being randomly allocated to either of two cannabis oil treatments which will be delivered daily for a total of 6 weeks.
 
Participants will visit the clinic weekly to have their symptom burden assessed.
 
Results from this study will help determine clinical dosing of medicinal cannabis for relief of symptom burden in children with advanced cancer.

This trial is treating people with advanced cancer (metastatic or locally advanced solid tumours, brain tumours or advanced hematological malignancies)

Eligibility

Inclusion

 

1. Aged 6 months to 21 years
2. Have advanced cancer (metastatic or locally advanced solid tumours, brain tumours or advanced hematological malignancies)
3. Have been referred to, or are known to the paediatric palliative care service
4. Are symptomatic according to the MSAS Scale
5. Have a performance status of =>40

Exclusion

 

1. History of unstable, untreated cardiovascular disease
2. Severe hepatic or renal impairment
3. History of psychiatric disorder
4. Known substance use disorder
5. History suggesting drug diversion may occur
6. Participation in a trial of an investigational agent within the last 28 days
7. Pregnancy
8. Breastfeeding

Inclusion

  • Your cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic) or has grown into nearby parts of the body (locally advanced).
  • You have the type of cancer, symptoms, or health risks that this clinical trial is focused on.

Exclusion

  • You have certain types of non-cancer medical conditions.
  • You have had certain treatments, surgical procedures or drugs.
